  • Images shall have a free license. The allowed licenses are[1]:
  • The purpose is to have comprehensive lists of all monuments of all participating countries in the different Wikipedias, and images of them to be able to illustrated them, providing so a complete and unique vision of the cultural, architectural, historic and artistic heritage of the organizing countries. Therefore we will value especially the first images of monuments that had so far no picture in Wikimedia Commons or those illustrating the monument in a way that was not available before (e.g. showing the interior when before only exterior pictures were available).
  • Images must be uploaded between September 1st and 30th of 2024.
  • Images will be reviewed by a jury throughout October and at the end of the month the winners will be contacted by the organisation and published.
  • Those participating in the contest do accept these terms and the decisions that the organisation may take. In case of not fulfilling these terms the picture could be disqualified.
  • In this section (in Spanish) you can find out news about the contest and for any questions you may have you can send us an email to infoAt sign.svgwikimedia.es.

Photographs of Paradores de Turismo

In the current edition of the contest the hotel chain Paradores de Turismo will grant a prize to a special category, an award package of 2 nights including breakfast in any of the hotels of Paradores de Turismo in Spain to the best picture of any building of Paradores de Turismo, which are listed here.

In order to identify the participants of this special category, the following code shall be added to the photograph description page in Wikimedia Commons: [[Category:Imágenes_de_Paradores_de_Turismo_para_Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2014]] that results in the inclusion of the picture in this Commons category: Imágenes_de_Paradores_de_Turismo_para_Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2014.

Evaluation

The criteria established to evaluate the contest photographs is the following:

  • Technical quality
    • Proper exposure
    • Sharpness
    • Lack of problems like lens distortions, noise, dust spots, JPEG artifacts, chromatic aberratioin or vignetting
  • composition(the monument captured is the main subject of the picture without distracting elements that draw the attention to other elements, especially, but not only, people)
  • optical beauty
  • encyclopedic value

Recommendations

  • Many documents are private property or are located in private properties. In this case you will need to get an authorization to take pictures of the interior. It is possible though to take pictures from the exterior of the monument without authorization from a public place thank to the Freedom of Panorama.
  • In some cases the exterior of the monument could not be really interesting but the interior could hide real jewels to be photographee. So, explore them and capture not just the overall subject but also interesting details of it.

Notes

  1. Although these are the most frequent, it is allowed to use any other license accepted in Wikimedia Commons.
  2. Unlikely because it would also violate other of the conditions listed here.
  3. 3,0 3,1 Continental time in Spain
  4. 4,0 4,1 Canary Islands time
  5. Doing a new upload could actually cause an error, get it touch with the organization if you need help here.
  6. It is also allowed to use parameters.
  7. Identifier 1234 does not exist. The right identifier has to be searched for each monument. A photograph without an identifier or a wrong identifier does not meet the contest requirements.
  8. The currently available free licenses in Flickr are: Attribution and Attribution-Share Alike, any of them is valid.
